Should Android apps list minimum requirements?

Given the stunning diversity of Android handsets, it's not surprising that not all Android apps run well on all Android devices. But so far, information about which hardware or version of the Android operating system is required to support specific apps isn't consistently available. Poorly performing apps can drain your battery and cause other functional problems -- and I've seen this happen on my Android phone. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha recently blamed apps for causing performance problems that led to 70% of all Motorola Android device returns, according to PC World.

Sony: PC game network was also hacked

Sony said the Internet security breach targeting its networks was more extensive than originally thought. Hackers also gained access to databases containing subscriber information for Sony Online Entertainment, a San Diego subsidiary that makes online multiplayer games for computers and the PlayStation 3. The Sony division took its Web services offline Monday. That shutdown came 12 days after Sony Computer Entertainment disconnected the PlayStation console game network and Sony Network Entertainment shut down Qriocity media streaming services.

Whoa Zaxxon. Time Pilot. Venture. Turbo. I had forgotten how much these games rocked. What's next for downloadable games?

From the Nintendo 3DS's ability to grab titles on demand to the increasing popularity of retail sites like Steam and Direct2Drive.com, downloadable games will be everywhere in 2011. The days when you had to visit your local store, buy a title and insert a disc into your console to play a game are long gone. Thanks to new episodic titles ("Back to the Future," "Jurassic Park"), popular indie PC games ("Minecraft," "Recettear") and a growing range of smartphone apps and console-exclusive downloads, digital game distribution continues to grow.
